Were you doing this exercise fast? I would think if you did it in a purpousful intentional maner it would be okay. Infact, instead of staying away from the pistol I am going to start doing them. The thing that jacked up my knee was doing jumping lunges with clapping at the top. I forget what it is called though. Supposed to help with cordination ofcourse doing it for two miles probably was not a good idea.
