What happens if Silva loses to RJJ?

If Anderson Silva fights Roy Jones Jr. after his UFC contract is up and he loses, does that take away his P4P status?

Also, would this ruin possible fights against Fedor and Mousasi if he were to pursue these fights as well after he is done with the UFC. (If it happens)

*Not sure if this belongs in General MMA or UFC so Mods feel free to move wherever*

If it was a MMA fight or even a freestyle striking type of match then I think it would. But last I heard its a boxing match so I don't think it will affect his P4P status very much if any.

Ugh Silva, this is such a bad idea. His ability to keep great distance and utilize all parts of his body is what makes him good, his boxing isn't anywhere close to say, Vitor's level. Standing toe-to-toe with a boxer like RJJ is going to leave Silva staring at the lights.

Why can't he be this motivated to go and fight Fedor instead?

because he doesnt idolize and copy fedor, he idolizes and copies RJJ and he wants to know how far he has come.

It wont affect a thing but having to hear boxing fans laugh at MMA fans regardless of the fact it has no bearing on rankings.

theres NO WAY RJJ will fight silva in a K1 match. After all, why should he? Anderson is the one that called him out not the other way around.Plus we all know RJJ would never risk losing by fighting in k1 rules. In a boxing match RJJ will maul anderson but I dont think it affects his MMA status, the only thing it will do is fuel the boxing > mma crowd like bob arum.

NOTHING would happen. It's a different sport. It's like asking if RJJ's career would be affected if he lost a grappling match.

RJJ will remind him why he went from boxing to MMA in the first place.
Why, because he won by KO in less than two rounds and found it too easy? Because he was a BJJ black belt and felt those skills were going to waste in boxing? Are you aware that Anderson had fifteen MMA fights (including five Pride fights) before he did his one and only, completely dominant, boxing match?

If you ask me the reason he didn't keep boxing was because a year after his first match he was UFC MW champion, and his contract precluded further boxing gigs.

Not quite. Silva's hype right now is at astronomical levels. I think his hype is so crazy right now, Silva believes he could actually beat RJJ. And boxing is part of MMA, grappling is not part of boxing.

If he loses, and in a very convincing way, it will affect his hype status. He'll stay in the top P4P but I think perhaps less people will put him at #1 P4P. There's no way it affects his actual rankings but it could definitely hurt his "legacy."

Damn, I hate this move by Anderson. He has alot of exciting fights with possibilities at LHW. Leaving MMA at this point.....it's a let down to alot of fans.

The way I see it, if Silva loss to RJJ in a boxing match, he would still be top f4f fighter in the world, he just wouldn't be the top p4p boxer.

It also depends on how he would lose to RJJ how his p4p fighting status would be effected or whether it even would. If he were to lose to Roy Jones jr by decision, than it really wouldn't matter in terms of his MMA status. But if he were to get knocked out by Roy Jones jr, then people would start to question his chin, and it would also effect his p4p status a little bit.

I don't wanna see this fight. RJJ on his prime would murder Silva on boxing match with no questions asked, but Silva might actually be able to hang few round with him now and if he somehow manages to steal a win his army of nuthuggers would go crazy without realizing Silva was fighting a guy who should have retired several years ago anyway.

Im still pretty sure that RJJ would beat Silva, but he should retire already instead of running around losing 50% of his fights ruining the image of the unbreakable #1 p4p champion we remember from his golden age. He got nothing left to prove.

u know when ppl argue about wrestling credentials, so and so was on the olympic team, NCAA champ etc etc to prove they are better.... think about it, Roy has been a champion since he was a teenager in florida, multiple gold glove winner, olympic silver medalist (got robbed for gold imo) and a multiple time world champion as a professional. Even a washed up RJJ will handle Silva who has proven he cant compete with boxing cans, guys RJJ would walk thru.

Honestly Anderson wanting this fight so bad is a tribute to how much he looks up to RJJ and RJJ accepting it shows how much respect he has for Anderson Silva.

I honestly don't think it will make any difference, Anderson should lose to RJJ so when he does it wont be a massive shock. Even if he does beat RJJ, he beat a 40 year old RJJ who is at about 70% of what he was.

I don't see why anyone would think a world class MMA fighter should be able to hang with a fighter who specialises and focuses only in stand up fighting.

I would find it hard to believe that a world class fighter like RJJ in his prime would be stupid enough to go into a K1 bout without learning to defend leg kicks. If Le Bonner can do it, I think RJJ would be able to learn how to do it as well. Besides K1 rules wouldn't neccesarily work in Silva's favour as much as you might think, the muay thai clinch and knees have pretty much been taken out of the sport now because of Baukaws dominance a few years back.

Not saying Silva wouldn't win, just find it a bit far fetched that prime RJJ would go into a k1 without the proper prep.

just watch RJJ highlights with 16oz gloves... imagine him with MMA gloves on... obv Silva would have a big advantage but he couldnt just foolishly fly in looking for a clinch, RJJ can KO ppl with boxing gloves on, he can prob do brain damage with MMA gloves on and kill you bareknuckles. Silva likes to exchange with ppl standing up pretty much 100% of the time to gauge distance, obv he would win most of the time, but dont underestimate RJJs power, handspeed and combos, they will put you to sleep, esp in his prime, esp with MMA gloves on. Its a shame MMA wasnt big for alot of these guys, i think a world class boxing + wrestling foundation could go very, very far but we have yet to see anybody in MMA with true world class boxing skills.

Silva wouldn't murder Roy in a K1 rules fight. Clinch work is extremely limited in K1, and IMO opinion the only way Silva beats RJJ prime standing is by using the clinch. Now if you're talking about a Muay Thai rules fight then yes RJJ losses pretty quickly via muay thai clinch + knees to the head. A K1 rules fight I think could go either way.

Back to the thread I think if anything this adds to Silva's credibility. The fact the he wants to fight RJJ shows he's a true fighter who wants to challenge himself.

What boxing status, the dude is 1-1 as a pro? Anderson Silva is an one of the top two mixed martial artists on the planet and a damn good kickboxer, but he doesnt deserve to be in a boxing ring with RJJ and he will find out exactly why if this fight ever happens. As for this fight hurting his status, I dont think it will. The only people that would actually give him a chance in this fight are people that dont know anything about boxing. No trying to sound like a know it all or a dick, this is just the way I see it.

Andersons only real boxing cred is due to his MMA ability to be honest. If it werent for MMA he was never really a boxing standout and nobody would let him fight RJJ or anybody of that calibre, washed up or not.
