I for one am not entire sold on blaming the judges for the scoring of their first fight. There are so many people who gave Rua 4 out of 5 rounds, which I did not. I did have Rua winning the fight 48-47 however I can see Machida winning by the same score. Fact is that it was a very close fight. So close that so far the polls on this thread are 50/50, with valid arguments on both sides. To say that Machida does not have power is a false statement IMO. That's not to say that he KO Rua though, simply because it has never been done before. Machida also took some punches from Rua which in the past meant a KO or TKO for Shogun, so obviously Machida has a strong chin. One thing many people overlook from the first fight is that Machida's "gameplan" seemed to be to take the leg kicks and counter from there. In between rounds they brought out 5 gallon buckets with bags of ice specifically for the legs. This tells me that Machida knew his legs were gonna take a beating. If Shogun becomes more agressive I think that Machida counters punches much better than leg kicks and if he comes in with the same leg kick attack I think Machida has a better defense for that in the rematch (his good friend is AS, who too is a Muay Thai specialists and surely will provide some intel). Than there is the unthinkable that this fight goes to the ground with two BJJ black belts, which I think will happen, giving Machida the sub victory by either RNC or guillotine.
