If you can soften up his ribs and really dig in repeatedly dig in on him it's going to take effect. With the way he defends if he's hurt. With his breathing and with the way he moves when he grapples.
An injured opponent makes mistakes. That's why you punish him in all areas. Hit him heavy and often to the body when you can in a GNP situation.
