That's not motherly advice or morality... that's just real life in the business world.
Employer sets the rules. That's just how it is. They own the business, they have the right to.
If they tell you the rules, you break them, and lie about it... they're not going to hire you. Or if you do get hired, you're not going to stay around long. There's something funny about people who just can't buck up and be responsible... they can't fool employers for very long.
