As for the debates, it does not have to be atheist vs. religious. It is any part of religion you wish to debate. Knowing whether or not a person is Atheist or Theist helps you understand where they are coming from better, and if you do want to debate them on that subject (is God real or is he not), you can do so much easier this way.
