So in my opinion, i would say go ahead and stick with the TKD as it is effective it just isnt used as much in MMA or isnt used correctly so people are quick to say it is ineffective.
pointing to one or two examples is insufficent, you need a fair number of people using the style otherwise it's more about THEM then the STYLE itself being useful.
