StrikeForce welterwight Paul 'Semtex' Daley is set to put his #1 Contendership Status on the line as he fights in his mative M.E.N. Arena in Manchester where he takes on DEEP legend Yuya Shirai in the main event of BAMMA 5 with the BAMMA Welterweight Championship up for grabs.
Do you have a link to the poster? I'm not that familiar with DEEP fighters so i had to look his opponent up and i'm more than sure that Daley is going to have an easy fight.
They won't be growing long if they keep avoiding paying their fighters. Tom Watson, one of their champions, was involved in a complete shambles of a situation with Alex Reid. Watson was waiting at the weigh-ins for 2 hours before Reid showed up, and then Alex showed up over-weight, and despite this being acknowledged by BAMMA, he wasn't given the 10% of Reid's purse he was promised. This, after Watson fought 2 weeks previous, and despite BAMMA knowing this (it was a contracted fight for Watson) still booked the Reid fight for 2 weeks after Watson's fight in Canada against Jesse Taylor. Appreciate what they're trying to do for British MMA, but you cannot treat your fighters like that, especially your champions. I just hope Paul doesn't get messed about too.
It's too bad that the Bob Sapp fight isn't being carried over onto this card. I wonder if any of the original fights are going to be carried over. But I have to agree that BAMMA is growing!
It doesn't seem to be their not paying their fighters as they're not paying their fighters what they should be paid. It's not like Dream who just wasn't paying their fighters. Granted they need to be smarter in booking their fighters!
So because they're still paying their fighters a little of what they're owed it's OK? BAMMA owe (or did owe) Tom Watson several thousand dollars, which he needed to actually make it so he made some money for that fight. As it stood when I read his blog, he was losing money for taking that fight, which just isn't on. BAMMA are putting on decent shows, they're easily the best UK promotion, but if they're going to have any semblance of longevity they need to step their game up and start paying their fighters properly.
No I disagree that they can get away with it. They do need to start paying their fighters what they say they are going to pay them. If they want to stay as the number one UK promotion they do need to pay their fighters what they say they will pay them!
