Askren by UD:

Round 1
Jason Herzog is the referee for the evening’s televised main event. Thompson comes out with some fancy footwork, catches a kick from Askren and misses with a few overhand rights. Thompson catches the champ with a right hand, but Askren goes from turtling to top position with a single-leg in no time flat. Askren quickly passes to the right side of Thompson, who tries to shrimp underneath the wrestler. North-south position for Askren, then he steps around to Thompson’s left. Askren is blanketing with Thompson’s head trapped under his arm. Hammerfists from the posturing Askren prompt Thompson to grab at a leg lock, but nothing’s coming. Askren tries to pin the arm of Thompson, can’t get it and Thompson rolls to turtle. Referee Herzog warns Askren for punching to the back of Thompson’s head and Thompson rolls back over. More punches from Askren as Thompson tries to stand before getting swept back under. Total domination from Askren with 60 seconds to go. Thompson appears to be bleeding from the bridge of the nose. Thompson gets to his feet and Askren drags him back down just before the bell.

Round 2
Askren swings a wide left hand and ducks in behind it to bring Thompson down again. Quickly back to side control goes Askren, but he’s prevented from mounting by Thompson. Another leg lock attempt from Thompson falls by the wayside as Askren rolls over him and takes his back. Askren’s right arm goes across Thompson’s face; he can’t get it under the chin and Thompson survives the scare. Askren stands over Thompson and tries to bomb into guard, but the punches miss. Half-guard for Askren and Thompson tries to tie up from beneath. Askren punches to the body and stands before being awkwardly tripped down by the laying Thompson. No matter -- Askren immediately goes back to side control, then locks up a brabo choke when Thompson tries to scramble. Thompson rolls free and finishes the round on bottom once again.

Round 3
Thompson tries to keep Askren on the end of his jab for the first 40 seconds of the final round... until he’s taken down once again by the former Mizzou Tiger. Thompson gets full guard this time and tries to sneak his legs up the body of Askren, but both men are too slippery at this point. Askren passes to side control and gets to work with short, light punches. Thompson regains half-guard as Askren lays his forearm across the throat of the “Goat.” Askren steps out, stacks Thompson up and moves to north-south as Thompson turtles. Thompson gets to his feet and Askren tries an ankle pick, but can’t get it. Thompson desperately dives on the grounded Askren with 10 seconds to go, but his few punches do no damage and come far too late.
