Bellator's season-four welterweight final will take place in Newkirk, Okla.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the event that Bellator Fighting Championships officials have scheduled Jay Hieron (21-4 MMA, 2-0 BFC) and Rick Hawn (11-0 MMA, 3-0 BFC) to meet at Bellator 43.
While Bellator brass has yet to officially announce the bout for the event, Bellator 43 takes place May 7 at First Council Casino. As with all of Bellator's season-four cards, Bellator 43 airs on MTV2.
Hieron booked his spot in the fight with a Bellator 40 win over Brent Weedman at this past weekend's event. A tightly-contested affair throughout, Hieron was granted a unanimous-decision win over Weedman after 15 hard-fought minutes.
Prior to the semifinal win, Hieron earned a technical submission win over last-minute tourney entrant Anthony Lapsley at Bellator 35.
A UFC, Strikeforce and IFL veteran, Hieron brings a nine-fight win streak into the contest and has not tasted defeat since June 2007.
Meanwhile, Hawn earned his spot in the finals on the strength of a hotly contested split-decision result over Lyman Good at Bellator 39. Prior to that result, Hawn outstruck British contender "Judo" Jim Wallhead in a Bellator 35 quarterfinal.
A former Olympic judoka, Hawn made his MMA debut in January 2009 and has since rattled off 11-straight wins to open his career.
The winner of Hieron vs. Hawn will be crowned Bellator's season-four tournament winner and earn a future date with the promotion's welterweight champion, Ben Askren.
