The UFC Undisputed video game series took a break this year, allowing more time for game developer THQ to improve upon the game before launching the next version in 2012.
So far the latest version, currently known as both UFC 2012 and UFC 3, has been under wraps, but that’s all about to change with the title set to be showcased at the E3 Electronic Game Expo on June 7-9th in L.A.
According to THQ boss Danny Bilson it’s going to be worth waiting for.
“Saw a killer demo of UFC 3 this week,” Bilson stated on Twitter. “Will blow people away at E3.”
The original UFC Undisputed 2009 game was a huge success for the company, though the following year’s 2010 edition failed to meet it’s projected sales figures. Since then EA Sports first foray into the market with EA MMA which also underperformed. That’s not deterred others though, with 505 games set to launch Supremacy MMA next month which features an ‘unlicensed’, arcade-influenced take on the sport.
UFC 2012 is expected to be released in January, 2012 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
The third installment of the critically acclaimed and bestselling "UFC Undisputed" videogame franchise debuts in January, officials recently announced.
The game, available for PlayStation3 and Xbox 360, features numerous enhancements.
They include the addition of the UFC's bantamweight and featherweight divisions, a "PRIDE rules" game-play option, fighter walkouts and new camera positions.
"'UFC Undisputed 3' is on track to deliver an incredible virtual MMA experience unlike any other," stated Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Games, THQ. "This product is intense, engaging and highly competitive while still being extremely accessible, making it a must-have for millions of UFC fans, traditional fighting game enthusiasts and more casual sports fans around the world."
More than 150 UFC fighters will be available as playable characters, including competitors from the UFC's recently adopted 135-pound and 145-pound weight classes.
The PRIDE mode, which includes official commentators Bas Rutten and Stephen Quadros, allows soccer kicks, head stomps and knees to the head of a downed opponent during game play. PRIDE, a former Japanese organization, was purchased by the UFC in early 2007 but ultimately disbanded by the promotion.
Players also can choose between traditional and simplified game-play control options. The online options have been expanded, as well.
