The next major Strikeforce event is set to go down on Dec 17, and while several fights have been rumored, very few have been confirmed by the promotion itself.
One bout that has now been made official by the promotion is a light heavyweight match-up between former champion Gegard Mousasi and rising prospect Ovince St-Pruex.
Strikeforce officials confirmed the new bout on Tuesday.
Former champion Gegard Mousasi returns to Strikeforce for the first time since his last bout there with Keith Jardine ended in a draw. Mousasi did have another fight after that while competing in Dream where he defeated Hiroshi Izumi by TKO.
Facing Mousasi in December will be former Tennessee football player turned fighter Ovince St-Preux. The one-time SEC stand out has now won his last 8 fights in a row including four in a row in Strikeforce.
“OSP has been wanting this fight for a long time,” St-Preux’s manager Nima Safapour from Alchemist Management told MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday. “It’s a real honor to compete against a warrior like him, and we are excited about the fight.”
The bout between St-Preux and Mousasi is the latest addition to the card set to take place on Dec 17, although no location or venue has been announced for the show.
More fights are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Can't f'n wait. Mousasi has this one.
