Bullying has been around FOREVER. It's just recently in the last few years or so, the media's been covering it and it seems like more and more of today's youth don't seem to have the sort of resolve that kids did when I was young, and my parents when they were young, etc. with them offing themselves in record numbers and all.
It's disappointing to see and disappointing that it exists, but it isn't going away anytime soon, if ever.
