I find counting calories to be working great. Just burn more then you take in.

Creating a daily 500 calorie deficit will get you rid of 1 pound/week. Work out hard at least 3-4 times a week, eat less and drink lots of water.

I stepped up my calorie counting 3 weeks ago and lost 9 pounds since then.
