Lyoto Machida Retires Citing Submission Loss As The Reason...

Hmm...guess the JBJ fight did a number on him. I'll always root for em though.

Belém, Brazil

Lyoto Carvalho Machida is a Japanese-Brazilian mixed martial artist from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil who fights as a light heavyweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and is currently ranked as the #6 light heavyweight fighter in the world. He has recently tasted defeat to current light weight title holder Jon "Boner" Jones. Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida was once undefeated on his road to the title successfully knocking out Rashad "Sugar" Evans and defending it once again Mauricio "Shogun" Rua then losing in the rematch.

Displaying an ever elusive fighting style he experienced success throughout most of his career with notable wins over Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Rashad Evans, Rich Franklin, BJ Penn, Shogun, and a who's who of MMA fighting elite.

"I've had a great career. I've always wanted to give a good show for the people especially from Brazil. My style is the Machida style and this is why I fight. I try very hard to keep the belt even drinking my own pee pee.

Jon Jones is beatable. I was using my Karate style to confuse him in the first round. Then he was able to takedown, then from there I got sloppy. I will never forget or forgive him for choking me and leaving me in the Octagon. One day Anderson will avenge me for him."

Ed Soares states that he had no idea that Machida wanted to retire. "I'm actually taken aback. I just spoke to Machida the other week an everything seemed fine. We were even watching Steven Seagal flicks together."

Lyoto joins the long list of hall of famers who are retiring from the sport of MMA.
