Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran (17-4 MMA, 7-1 BFC) will attempt to make the first defense of his title when he meets season-four tournament champ Patricio "Pitbull" Freire (17-1 MMA, 5-1 BFC).

The title bout is set for Bellator 73, which takes place Aug. 24 as the finale of the promotion's "Summer Series" series of events.

A venue was not announced for the fight, which airs on MTV2.

Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney announced the fight during tonight's Bellator 70 event.

Challenger Freire ran the table in the season-four competition with stoppage wins over Georgi Karakhanyan and Wilson Reis, as well as a decision victory over Daniel Straus. Freire's sole setback came in the finals of Bellator's season-two tournament with a split-decision loss to former champ Joe Warren.

Curran is well acquainted with Warren having knocked out the standout wrestler in his most recent showing at Bellator 60. Previously, he won this past year's "Summer Series" featherweight tournament with victories over Luis Palomino, Ronnie Mann and Marlon Sandro, which served as his first turn as a featherweight after winning the season-two lightweight tournament and falling short against then-champ Eddie Alvarez.
