Savages Film Review...
Just got back from the advanced screening. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I knew going into it that it was an Oliver Stone picture, but with relative unknowns as the main actors and veterans Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro, and Travolta playing more of a supporting role I wasn't sure what to expect.
If you've seen Traffic, Benicio plays an honourable Mexican federale. In Savages he plays the complete opposite; a homicidal enforcer/assassin for the drug cartel. Both equally compelling. Oh the irony...
Travolta plays the goofy DEA agent and delivers for the most part. Salma's role as the matriarch of the cartel organization wasn't too bad. Reminded me of the Godmother in Cocaine Cowboys II if any of you saw it.
All in all I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10 which is pretty solid as it was fairly entertaining with gratuitous sex and lots of gory violence. Blow and Traffic still lead the pack when it comes to this genre with a 7/8 rating for me.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.
