During Saturday night’s “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” event, it was announced Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier (Pictured) will conclude his hexagon career on September 29th inside Power Balance Pavilion (formerly ARCO Arena) in Sacramento, California.
The contest marks the final 265-pound affair under Strikeforce’s banner. Big brother UFC has already promoted most of Strikeforce’s top heavyweights over to the big leagues.
Strikeforce didn’t report who Cormier would be facing in Cali’s capital, though the wrestler-turned-striker will likely headline the festivities.
It will be a significant scrap for Cormier. If he once again finds himself in the winner’s circle, UFC president Dana White previously professed Cormier would get an immediate title shot upon his transition to the Octagon.
Cormier bumped his professional mixed martial arts record to a perfect 10-0 by cruising to a unanimous decision victory against Josh Barnett this past May. He took home this monstrosity for taking the tourney.
Barnett is also expected to appear in the September 29th show.
Fans will be getting a double-dose of Zuffa, LLC action that night. The Octagon will be hosting “UFC on FUEL TV: Struve vs. Miocic” from across the pond in Nottingham, England that same evening.
I don't really know who they should give him.. Maybe Kharitonov? What if they did something crazy and signed Cole Konrad?!
