Something like that would be interesting, but 5 months is fairly short. Factoring in medical suspensions, you might not even be able to fight in time, or get a proper training camp in.

The problem with this idea is that we're trying to put structure to something that is entirely arbitrary, and basically up to Dana.

If fighter rankings and that sort of thing were always taken seriously, we wouldn't have fights like Couture/Toney, Sonnen/Jones or Silva/Bonnar to name a few. Lesnar got a title shot after a loss, and then one win against Heath f*cking Herring.
