1. Maybe you don't understand the term "mental midget". I'm saying the person in question has a weak mind. The opposite of mental toughness. You know how when someone says a fighter has "heart" how they are referring to the "will" of the fighter and how they try to push through the bad times? Just think the opposite, some people fold under pressure. That is what happened in the example given.

2. You know the old saying you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink? Same concept, you could have the knowledge and skills of a world class warrior but if you lack to the ability to apply that knowledge that falls back on the individual. You can't blame the discipline for the faults of the user. The problem you describe has 100% to do with the individual and zero to do with any marital arts.
It has a lot to do with the person teaching it aswell as the physical differences between people.
Physically weak people cannot win a fight against strong trained people, that is what martial arts claim and that is why they are useless. Having a rifle brings new light into the equation.
