I don't think the general consensus is that they make a fighter worse but the two above arguments are definitely valid but not universal. It can affect longevity but this also depends on a range of other things, training, supp regiment, knowledge of proper cycling, etc. Also the second that adding muscle mass won't instantly make you a better fighter as it comes with trade-offs such as cardio and speed.
