^^ You have to realize that the people making money at Fox News don't really give a shit about gun control, or gay marriage, or abortion, or whatever else we like to pretend is important. They just realize that if they take an anti-gun control stance they serve a niche in the national news market and they can maximize the amount of viewers they get, which in turn makes them more money, which is all they care about.
For the same reason the History channel doesn't air anything on history and MTV has almost nothing to do with music anymore, news channels don't really report news anymore. They are all channels that started with an idea, and they slowly changed to more accurately match what their viewers like to maximize viewership until they turn into some sort of strange perpetual advertisement selling themselves to a seemingly oblivious audience.
It's like evolution, but with TV channels.
