UFC on FUEL TV 7: Gunnar Nelson vs Jorge Santiago

Round 1 - Referee Marc Goddard in the cage for this welterweight fight. Santiago rushes forward with punches. Nelson calmly moves away and tries too his opponent up. Santiago swinging away and lands a glancing knee and just misses a haymaker. Nelson loosening up a bit and kicks the body and then the leg. Santiago kicks the head and then pulls away when Nelson tries to clinch. Nelson just misses a front kick. Santiago moving very well early in this fight. Nelson drops down and scores a takedown. He stands to pass guard, but Santiago uses the room to scramble up. Santiago walking forward with punches. Nelson avoiding well, and the pace slows a bit. Nelson pushes in for a clinch, but Santiago tags him with a few knees. The pull away to close, and the round ends there. MMAjunkie.com gives a close one to Santiago, 10-9.

Round 2 - Santiago again takes the center to open. He misses a kick, and Nelson rushes forward.He's trying to turn up the aggression. Santiago slips but pops back up and scrambles away. Nelson pushes in and scores with a few crisp hooks to the jaw. He stays tight and drags Santiago to his back. Santiago trying to keep guard underneath. He can't, and Nelson takes half-mount and looks to work. Two minutes in. Nelson stands and looks to pass. He can't, but he scores with several punches as he pushes back down into his opponent's guard. Nelson grinding from the top with short elbows. He stands again and looks to pass. He scores with a few punches and then pushes around to side control. That turns into mount with less than a minute to go. Nelson patiently picking power punches in the closing seconds, and he takes the round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.

Round 3 - Santiago takes the center and pumps a feeling jab. Nelson returns fire with a swift kick to the gut. Santiago rushes forward but can't score, and Nelson sets up and looks to kickbox. He kicks the legs and laces a right hand. His hands are low as he works from the outside but looks comfortable in the standup department. They clinch briefly but reset. Santiago wings a few wild punches but looks to be very tired. Straight left from Nelson. He's in complete control right now. He does eat a straight right hand, but he picks up the pace and comes in firing heavy leather. He unleashes a few powerful hooks and moves slightly away to avoid any return fire. He finally backs away, and Santiago takes a deep breath. Lead uppercut from Nelson stuns his opponent. Santiago trying desperately to score with leaping strikes, but Nelson is just picking him apart. Santiago flurries in the final 10 seconds. Nelson just drops his hands and lets him score. He does land strong at the bell, but MMAjunkie.com gives Nelson the round, 10-9, and awards him the fight 29-28. Gunnar Nelson def. Jorge Santiago via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
