I came from 24 years of Judo and 4 years of wrestling experience before I hit the MMA world. Getting used to going without a gi was definitely a transition that took getting used to, but the fundamentals that you learn from BJJ or Judo will transfer over to MMA whether or not you wear a gi. You'll just have to experiment with your moves once you stop wearing a gi as often. Focus on learning the basics and honing your skills. Worry about adapting your game to a "no-gi" situation after you're proficient. If no-gi competition or practice is your goal, then you'll want to slowly incorporate the no-gi workouts, not just jump into the deep end of the pool.
