Just thought I'd post this to show how stupid some of these comments are. Imagine GSP urging Bendo or Aldo to fight him. It's just stupid.
Size does matter in fighting and that's why we have weight classes. If Silva wants a super fight, fight Jones. Dana would make the fight in a heartbeat. Silva is already fighting at LHW, and yet refuses to fight for the title? Why aren't his fans calling him out?
GSP should have everyone's respect for what he's doing in the WW division. Why would we want to deprive the next WW in line so Sivla can get a cheap victor against a smaller fighter?
Exactly. Let the smaller guys ask for the heavier fighters. What is the obsession with Silva and his fans wanting Silva to take on smaller fighters? He already fights at 205. Why is he afraid of Jones?
He can't fight jones at LH because he doesn't want to stay there, he doesn't want that belt. Also he's ducking no one at middleweight, he's fighting Weidman in July.
IIRC it was Penn who called out GSP, not the other way around.
Plus Penn has fought at WW previously/often enough. GSP hasn't fought at MW, I don't think? (but this point is secondary IMO)
Anyway, my feeling is it's OK to call out guys above your division, not below, unless the lower guy 1) has a history with you, or 2) voluntarily fights in your class in the first place.
Size does matter in fighting, and that is why GSP cuts weight. he wants to beat up on smaller and weaker fighters. why do you want to see him beat up on smaller fighters?
that said, i don't want GSP to fight Silva, because then the bars would fill up with GSP fans who don't know anything about mma, and the service would suck. my drinks will come much faster if Silva fights someone that isn't canadian.
I don't find any of that irrelevant at all; the point of how the fight comes to be is most important to me - but that's OK because it's just personal opinions.
The main thing that gets me is why anyone should care if random forumites have some sort of bizarre jimmy rustlage because Anderson is calling out a dude smaller than him that he wants to fight for very obvious reasons.
And when the point is made with extremely inappropriate hyperbole it's even more confounding.
This whole thread is rather silly. Its hard for me to imagine a 170 pound man, who is a great athlete and fighter, fighting a man 250 pounds, who is also a great fighter and athlete. Silly thread is silly. With the way my brain has been steered away from freak show fights, even though I loved them in Pride and early UFC, I just cant fathom this fight....at all...ever.
