Cody McKenzie gave the featherweight thing a try, and well, he must not have liked it all that much because he's heading back up to lightweight for his next fight. That fight, against Sam Stout will take place on the UFC on Fox 9 fight card.

McKenzie (14-3) went 1-1 during his time at featherweight, losing to Chad Mendes via first round TKO in his debut at 145 pounds. He bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Leonard Garcia. The win over Garcia was the first time McKenzie went the distance as a professional mixed martial artist.

McKenzie has struggled in his last five fights, putting together a record of 2-3 during that run. Prior to that, McKenzie was unbeaten in 12 contests. During that unbeaten streak, he ran up 10 consecutive guillotine choke submission victories.

Stout (19-9-1) has also been up and down over the last two years. Stout's last two consecutive victories came in October 2010 and June 2011. Since then Stout has gone 2-3, with his last fight being a submission defeat to James Krause. Stout and Krause did share Fight of the Night honors for that UFC 161 matchup.

Sacramento's Sleep Train Arena will host UFC on Fox 9. The main event will feature Anthony Pettis putting his lightweight title on the line against former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson. The fight card will take place on December 14.
