Round 1 – Kang stands tall as the smaller Shimizu moves on the outside. Kang misses a big spinning kick. Kang stalking, and he kicks the leg. Shimizu looks for a takedown but eats a knee. Kang turns and tries to get away. Shimizu won’t let go. Kang presses inside and blasts away with punches. He moves to mount and looks like he might finish it there but instead sets up a triangle and rolls toff to finish it. It’s not there, but he turns his attention to the arm. Shimizu is in trouble but somehow turns and relieves the pressure. He’s still trapped, and Kang elbows the head. Shimizu holding his arm to keep it safe. Kang turns back to the strikes and lands an illegal elbow. Referee Steve Perceval steps in and has doctors look at the damage that was caused. Shimizu fights on, and Perceval takes away two points. On the restart, Kang misses another spinning kick. Shimizu tries to slide in for a takedown. He can’t get it, but he does wind up clinching and getting the action to the floor. Kang n top, and he backs away. Kang kicks and lands to the groin. Shimizu falls to his knees. Perceval only issues a warning this time. Round ends just after the restart, and Shimizu takes it on the MMAjunkie card, 9-8, with the deduction.
Round 2 – Kang attacks the legs early. Shimizu looks for the takedown but absorbs damage wile seeking it. He falls to the floor, and Kang follows and looks to strike. Kang settles into mount, and Shimizu tries to buck free underneath. Kang lands a few short, thudding elbows. Kang looks to posture and strikes, and he sneaks in a few more crushing shots. Shimizu is taking the blows and looking for options, and he does nail a sweep to the top. As Kang works to get back to his feet, Shimizu willingly falls to guard. Kang happy to posture and strike, and he’s in complete control. Shimizu gets the feet on the hips. Kang postures and misses with a few big strikes. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Kang, 10-9.
Round 3 – Shimizu moving laterally to open. He shoots on on a takedown. Instead, Kang gets free and scores one of his own, driving Shimizu to the floor. Big strikes from the top for Kang, who is the far stronger fighter. Shimizu with guard underneath. He’s actively looking for opportunities to gain some momentum, but Kang is just cruising from the top. Kang postures and strikes. He moves back down and delivers short elbows to the face. Shimizu tries to get free, but Kang spins beautifully to keep top position, getting side control and then mount. He moves immediately from there into a side choke, dismounts and squeezes. Immediate tap. Great finish.
