Makes sense to me. Chances are this fight will stay on the feet, where Silva is more explosive and dynamic. Even if it does go to the ground, Silva has the advantage there too. Brown's best chance is to survive the early onslaught and overwhelm him later but I don't see it happening. This is probably ending in RD 1.
Plus he's been out for awhile with a fairly serious injury.
Brown might come out like he did against Mike Pyle and try and go nuclear in the first minute. Could be looking at a real early knockout either way.
Can't see brown winning this though unless its very early. Silva has too many weapons
I like Erick Silva a lot, but he's so over-rated. Looks great against average fighters, but has lost every fight against top competition. Matt Brown is top competition, and is on a superb run. This is going to be a very tough fight for Silva, and Brown should really be the favourite, so those odds are very weird. Definitely worth a punt on Brown.
I dunno how he's over rated. He lost to Fitch when Fitch was about the most motivated Fitch we have ever seen. And back then Fitch was a tough fight for anyone in the division.
Granted I can't remember the other one he lost to Kim, but Im thinking Silva is going to prove his worth against brown.
Brown for me is an average fighter with a huge heart, work ethic and motivation to succeed. But I think his skills are going to get found out against silva!
He's still talked about like he's one of the best in the world, yet on 2 occasions when he's had a big fight, he's lost. I'm not doubting his skill-set, he's obviously very talented, but he does have 2 losses to top ranked fighters, and I'm not convinced at this point that he's one of the top guys. Wouldn't surprise me if he turned that around in this fight, but Brown is a massive test for Silva.
Silva's problem is that he started high and very dominant in the UFC, but didn't really improve since then. It's still the same aggressive Shogun-"overwhelm your opponent"-style with good enough ground game to not be afraif of take downs. But he still lacks intelligent pacing to not gas later in the fight and his style is too reckless to not get caught one in a while.
The question is what tactics will Brown adopt in the fight? Will he do what he did against Pyle or will he try and make it a cardio match. Either way though and whoever wins definitely a fight I'm looking forward to.
Erik is not overrated for these losses he had. He is a phenomenal prospect still. Great talent and skills, but still finding his game.
He almost finished Fitch on the ground until he gassed and he was owning DHK when got stun gunned to the face. It happens. But I still consider him a work in progress worth to invest on.
...Brown is what his title is. A technical brawler. Silva is more athletic and has decent striking but not much else. Matt is so aggressive and his guard is nasty. No doubt he will make it a brawl and come after Silva. If Silva keeps moving laterally avoiding Matt's pressure he could land something clean possibly changing the fight. I think Brown will break Silva with his aggressive attack and good cardio. Matt Brown all day...
Over-rated. Called it. Haha, nah, seriously, Erick Silva is tough as a mother****er. Just doesn't have the gas tank, or the heart of a guy like Brown. He's immensely talented, but I just can't see him ever getting to that top echelon. Another big fight, another loss for Silva.
