not that complicated... 500lbs is 500lbs and 250lbs is 250lbs.
place a dumbbell on a scale, if the scale is functioning properly it will show the same number as the side of the dumbbell ... won't add 30lbs a cm^2 blabla
500lbs is twice as much as 250lbs.
even though one can bench twice as much as another, does not necessarily mean he is any stronger.. but he is twice as powerful bench presser.
