I would say a combination of options B, C, & D. Especially D.
There has been a lot of crap happening to Hughes team before they fight. Whether it's a dead cousin, swollen hand, crazy/retarded religious kook girlfriend, Bruised ribs.... And then just the fact that it is a sport where anything can happen.
