If Fedor has to slip, so too does Barnett. Take him out of the equation and the only good guy Nog has fought in the last 3 years is Werdum, and that was 18 months ago.
Again, it's not that Randy is the better fighter (althouggh he might be we don't know) it's just that he has proven he is top teir twice in 2007 while Fedor and Nog haven't. When either Fedor or Nog fight and win again against a top 10 guy then they immediately leap to #1 imo.
Randy is #1 through circumstance in my eyes, and is just keeping the spot warm for Nog or Fedor until they fight a top 10 HW. Nevertheless though....as of today, right now, i think he has to be #1.

Whoa whoa whoa...taking Barnett out of the equation now because he hasn't fought is logical but that doesn't make it less of a victory when Nog beat him. At the time Nog beat Barnett, he was the legitimate #3 or 4 HW. You can't erase that...
Randy beat the most overhyped fighter of 2007, GG. One kick does not make him the next Jesus. And Tim Sylvia was fighting with no operation of his back. Come on. Its very impressive what Randy has done, but its not enough to put him over Fedor or Nogueira.
Nog's wins are simply better than Randy's will ever be. Cro Cop, Barnett, Werdum, Kharitonov, Goodridge, Horn, Overeem, Herring, Tamura, Sapp, Inoue, Schilt, Henderson, Nastula.
You can't take any of those losses away. Barnett hasn't fought in a while now, but does that make the win less impressive when it happened back then? Of course not. Same with Cro Cop. Mirko hasn't looked good lately, but when Nog beat him he was a legit #2. You CANNOT take those losses away.
