Read my last post three posts above yours and re-read what you quoted. I have no problem if it actually means something to you, like having "Judo" in Japanese tattoo'd that got mentioned or something representing a life changing events/relationships etc.

And symbolism uses symbols not words. Words are not symbols even if they are in a different language. If you want a symbol to represent peace a good idea would be a dove, the ban the bomb symbol, an olive branch. Not the word for peace in Japanese. To anyone who doesn't speak Japanese it is just a tattoo. It doesn't mean anything, it's pointless, redundant. And if you don't care that no-one else knows what it is why put it on display on your skin? Just so you can be all yeah I'm cool and have this mysterious japanese tattoo that you don't know what it means unless I explain it. Guess what? Symbols shouldn't need explaining.
