Do I think BJ could take Sherk down?... yes.
Do I think Sherk could take BJ down?... yes.
But I think BJ is more effective from his back than Sherk is... And I see BJ managing to get to his feet while defending the sub at the same time... I cant say the same for Sherk.
If BJ makes a mistake while on the ground, I dont think he will get it deep trouble... Sherk will not risk attempting a sub... he will try to play conservative 'control' strategy...like he admitted doing with Franca... and hope to grind out a win. With BJ the risk of a reversal is greater than with Franca... so yeah, I think its a safe bet Sherk will play it safe on the ground.
On the other hand if Sherk makes a mistake on the ground, its over... BJ wont hesitate to capitalize on it... even if it might put him at risk should it fail.
Im not simply 'wanting BJ to win'... Im basing it on Sherks last 3 fights and BJs fights...
considering that they both have fought GSP where GSP tooled Sherk and edged a (controversial) victory from BJ.
Im certainly not turning Sherk into Jorge Gurgel... Im using their past performances to rationalize a probable outcome.
Its all the Sherk nuthuggery that assert 'his stand up/striking is better' based on nothing.

i'm not sure where your getting this idea that people think sherk's striking is better....the thread never said that
and penn doesn't have the reach that gsp had in their fight either.
i think if bj relies on getting a sub from his back it's gonna be a long night for him. jens pulver was escaping submissions from bj and sherk's submission defense and overall grappling and mma experience is higher as well.
