If I had to call the fight on judgement based on who did more damage and who did more work in total, I would have easily given that fight for Brandon. He constantly landed shots, even off of his back, had a nice sweep at the end of round 2. Just in general he did more work.
If I were limited to the UFC's scoring system, I regrettably have to give the fight to Dante. He got more takedowns, controlled the pace of the fight, passed guard several times, and tried for more submissions. Even if he spent 14 of the 15 minutes just laying on top of Brandon, there's no choice but to give it to Dante here.
I really hate the idea that wrestlers have such a ridiculous advantage in the scoring of fights since control is a huge factor in the judging. Like old school basketball (and I mean WAY old school) when scores would be 10-6 because there was no shot clock. It's within the rules, no matter how bullshit it is, it's still legal.
Mazagatti really had a hand to play in how muffed up the fight was too. I felt he could have stepped in sooner when Dante was dry-humping dude against the cage. Also the "BREAK - oh wait nevermind - FIGHT ON" call was idiotic in the highest degree. Call it or don't Steve, don't give us a maybe call.
EDIT - I forgot to answer the question. I don't believe there should have been a third round. And again, I regret saying this, but Dante controlled the first two rounds, he won the match based on the scoring system, not on winning the fight.
