Everyone has their own opinion and I really respect that. I am a martial artist, there is a lot of thought and strategy that goes into the way I fight. Give me time and in the future every one will understand my style. It is like jiu-jitsu in the beginning (UFC 1, 2, 3...), it was boring but now it is necessary. If you don’t like it, sorry. I always try to win. For some that is boring, I know, but I am beating the best in the world. After my fights I do not have nothing on my face, no scratches, no bruises. I am like a ghost they can not find me. If that is boring, that is their opinion. But I will be there for long time WINNING. Let everyone underestimate me. I will always be training ready for the next.
I have no problem with Lyoto fighting the way he does however I find it very boring. And that hurts him I mean I loved his fight with Sokky it was exciting but that was more the exception the the rule.
Machida shouldn't change his style if he doesn't want to but I highly doubt he will ever become a star in the UFC with the way he fights.
Lyoto's the man, and I'm glad that he'd rather win than to please the fans. Seriously, Machida isn't your typical banger. In fact, he doesn't slang leather, at all. He's crafty and precise. Shit, you can't make a great fighter like him become another Chris Leben.
People talk about him running and not getting hit. The key is to win without taking any damage, and Lyoto does just that.
I used to say that I could see how some can find it boring, but I think I was just trying to be agreeable. I have watched and re-watched his fights with Franklin, Bonnar, Penn, Ortiz and Sokky. The guy is simply amazing to me.
I really hope he clowns Thiago like I think he will. :thumb02:
Did you enjoy the Penn vs Machida fight? That's one Machida fight that I find to be a tad boring. Great first round for Penn, though. Then, Penn gasses and they clinch a ton. I did like the double stomp by Lyoto, though.
Penn ended up looking better than Lyoto in that fight.
Machida vs Greco is such a good, underrated fight.
Sorry, but this is MMA and not point karate. I do find his style very boring and I know it has cost him, and it will cost him in the future. I do not expect him to be Chris Leben, but I do expect him to be a little more aggressive, take advantage of opportunities, not just sit back the entire fight and wait until everything is 200% safe and then throw 1 punch.
I have said it before, maybe I am bitter about him because we get these glimpses of how great he can be surrounded by the rest of the boring fight. He has some slick moves, but if I only get 1 move in 15 minutes then move on please.
Sorry, but this is MMA and it involves point Karate. If people like Forrest, Rashad, Liddell want to keep winning, they need to know how to counter his mobility.
I actually think a good aggresive striker could be his downfall. The problem with everyone who has fought Machida lately is that they work right into his game. Call me crazy but I think a guy like Wandy has the best shot at taking him down. Just balls to the wall knowing youre going to eat some shots going in.
Why should he change the way he fights if he keeps winning? I personally don't find him to be that boring and I will keep rooting for him. I definitely think he will beat Silva's winning streak in the future.
Yeah, the thing with Machida is that the dude is never willing to take a risk. He will always wait for you to over commit and then capitalize on your mistake.
It is very smart fighting but it can make for a dull fight. Most people are willing to have some risks in order to finish the fight but Machida won't do it.
Thats my Boy......:thumb02: "I am like a ghost......" I love it........."winning"
The Legend...let me ask you who is some one...???? I mean you cant even name a fighter?? i think thats bullshit that Lyoto would get subbed by "some fighter"....Why do you think he has weak jits?
Machida is incredibly boring and I find his lack of wanting to entertain the fans who pay him rather disturbing. Machida isn't the class act that people like Franklin are. Someone should Sean Sherk him and lay on him for three rounds and get a decision on him. Cruel irony.
It would never happen because Machida would submit Sherk fairly quickly. I know he isn't what you like, but the dude is completely a class act.....he has never disrespected an opponent and he beats them completely everytime. I'm sorry that you think that way but if Sherk tried to stand with him, he would get knocked out so quickly it isn't even funny.
MAchida is the fukn man, one of my favourite things about him is his sweeps, they are the shiz. Machida v Sam Hoger is such an awesome match and really underrated. Ill admit i found the heath fight a bit less fun then his other fights, but his Tito, Sokki, Nak and Hoger fight were awesome. Can't wait to see him as the champ
Look, we may not agree with the UFC's strategy of pushing more exciting fighters over better fighters but it's the way it is and probably always will be. And Lyoto should know that.
I thought he might have turned the corner with the Sokoudjou fight but it will be interesting to see what happens against Thiago.
Machida is an amazing fighter and imo a top 5 LHW. He will beat Silva and whether he gets a title shot right after or not he will eventually get one and he will be champion.
maybe vinny malgahes or whatever might have to be the match up.
dependent on takdowns but the jitz on that guy would trouble machida
the only really good jitz guy at light heavyweight
any one have any thoughts on this?
p.s. i dont think vinny could advance high enough to challange machida with out a larger increase in stand up
Vinny is the only 205 i know that has great offense jitsu. It is still way to early to tell how well he will develop.
I know that Penn/Machida fought in an open weight class match.. I know thats not saying much, but going 15 minutes rolling with Penn and not being submitted has to say something little atleast.
I know this is just my opinion and there are other people that feel differently but I don't feel Lyoto is boring at all. Earlier today I rewatched the Jon Fitch vs Chris Wilson fight and that was more boring to me than Lyoto vs Ortiz was. What i am saying is I feel there are other fights just as boring or even more so on a regular basis in mma. It's not like Lyoto's fights are the most boring fights to ever happen in mma ever. There are much much less entertaining battles all the time.
I'm not a big Machida fan at all. I can appreciate his fighting style, and it intrigues me, but i also find that one round is enough for me. I get uninterested fairly soon after that.
I did find it quite amusing in the Tito fight, that half way through Tito was bitching and moaning and saying come on to Machida, while at the same time standing completely still and making no move towards him what so ever.
Think alot of the problem for the Brazilian and all non english speaking fighters is that its pretty hard to get a feel for someone when they are being translated for. Not having a go at him, but for a predominantly english speaking crowd you can't tell what the guys really like when you get 5mins later from the translator.
A.Silva has some problems because of it (low ppv numbers) but he is knocking people out pretty spectacuarly.
If you have a more elusive style like Machida's then from a business point of view it would help if you could relate to the fans. Then again the UFC could help with better marketing campaigns etc. But they are a business and if your champ isnt a big enough of a draw then you have a problem. Think thats why they are reluctant to let Machida get to the top in a division that is stacked with big money makers.
