as reported by several forums and web sites, the Velasquez-Carwin fight for UFC 104 has reportedly been scratched and shane carwin will get his shot at Lesnar at UFC 106 in November
Shane Carwin had been scheduled to take on AKA fighter Cain Velasquez in October at UFC 104. But the UFC has opted to change course. Velasquez is not hurt and his management, Zinkin Entertainment, has not heard any news regarding the bout being scratched.
Minnesota MMA confirmed our source by tweeting the news Wednesday night.
UFC 106 takes place November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas NV.
If it did end up being true, I would see Cain fighting Mir. If he fought the winner of Couture/Nog, he would be in for a long wait. It wouldn't make sense for him to fight Herring, since he beat Kongo after he subbed for Herring. It doesn't seem like this would make sense.
I think Carwin should have a go at Lesnar, and number one contender should be Velasquez vs winner of couture/nog.
I really want to see Lesnar fight Nog, and round two with Couture, as Couture being one of the most intellegent fighters out there, he will have a solid game plan if he gets another go.
but the cro cop is already fighting dos santos, and personally id rather see him face santos.
the heavyweight division is finally beginning to come around. carwin by no means deserves a title shot, but thats not to say carwin/lesnar wouldnt be very interesting. i thought they'd be holding off lesnars next fight for the december super card, but he can practically pull in 1 million buys on his own at this point.
where does this leave valesquez though? he should be fighting for a title shot, but now it looks like he'll be left in the limelight. like another poster said, they should put him against mir. with a win over mir he should undoubtedly be next in line.
meanwhile they should have the winners of cro cop/santos and couture/nogueira face off for the next title shot.
As much as I would like to see Carwin fight Lesnar, I find the move to scrap the Velasquez/Carwin highly lacking in sporting integrity. That fight was set up as a contendership bracket, and its as if all of a sudden the UFC declared that Carwin was the winner. The reasons there are fights is to determine who is better and who deserves to move up in the rankings. I know this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened, but the contendership fight was ALREADY set up. That being said, it is possible that Velasquez is injured, or could even be given a later shot at the title.
I agree with this completely. I think Cain Velasquez got kinda screwed over in the whole deal. I do think that Carwin would have won and moved on to fight Lesnar, but that doesnt mean Cain should have lost his shot.
I have also heard a lot of people wanting to see Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir now. Which sucks because this would mean that the contender fight is scratched, carwin gets the champ, and velasquez gets stuck fighting the guy the champ just destroyed.

Personally i think that Carwin has a better chance against Lesnar than Cain does because he has someting Cain doesnt, two huge fists that need to be surrounded by XXXL gloves.
I dont think that Cain or Carwin would beat Lesnar in wrestling alone therefore i think the only way to beat Lesnar is by knocking him out and Carwin has the best chance of doing that
