Hated to settle it for Sampson but he won by RNC in the 3rd. Hell of a fight, kamikaze is one fast dude! Even after those shots to the cup. Took forever for the wrestler to get him down. Here's how they wrote it up:
Sampson starts the 140-pound catch-weight bout with a low kick to the groin, but there's no stoppage. Both fighters shake and quickly continue. Both trade hooks that hit only air. Myers tries a crane kick that grazes Sampson's arm. Sampson shoots in for a double-leg, but Myers' defense is true. Sampson is trying to close the distance, with little success. He wades in with a hook and grabs a bodylock, but Myers easily breaks free. Sampson is more active on the feet. Sampson rushes forward with a combination and grabs a double-leg against the cage. Myers keeps it up with underhooks, and turns the tables with a throw of his own. They scramble back to the feet right after they hit the mat. Myers is the one moving forward now. He whips a body kick at Sampson, who grabs his foe's leg and goes for another takedown. Sampson has Myers against the cage. They break off the fence, but now the action slows. Sampson lands a straight right. Myers tries a one-two that Sampson ducks under and answers with a left hook. The round ends with Sampson landing a single-leg takedown. The featherweights exchange combinations and leg kicks to open the second frame. Sampson dives in for a takedown, but Myers defends. Sampson tries a flying knee but his foot catches Myers' groin. The fight is paused briefly by referee Myron Gaudet. Upon restarting, they begin trading serious leather, but neither can land a clean shot. The action slows as both men circle away, looking to get their wind back. Sampson's movement is a lot better on the feet as he moves in and out of the pocket. Sampson lands a nice one-two combo, then shoots in for a double-leg takedown. Myers is defending against the cage. Sampson keeps working for the takedown and finally gets Myers to the mat. He transitions to the back, puts both hooks in and starts dropping leather on Myers' ears. He gets full mount and lands punches and elbows as the round ends. Sampson again sets up the takedown with the one-two combo. He lands in Myers' guard and is able to drop a few hard, clean punches to the face and body. Sampson moves into side control. Myers is able to get back to his knees, but the Texan has him pressed against the cage. Myers tries to stand, but Sampson drills him to the face with a vicious knee along the fence. “Wild Thing” quickly transitions to Myers' back during the scramble and sinks in a rear-naked choke. Myers is left with no choice but to tap, giving Sampson the win at 2:25 of the final round.
