So... I got injured and didn't end up having that title fight in May. But on the bright side, I got a call from Bellator to fight Steve Garcia at Mohegan Sun, September 5th!

Bellator MMA opens it’s new season September 5th from the Mohegan Sun arena in Uncasville, CT. One of New England’s top bantamweights Kin Moy (5-0) fights Rio Rancho, New Mexico native and Bellator veteran Steve Garcia (4-0). New England’s former #1 ranked amateur fighter has now built an impressive 5-0 pro record and remains 11-1 over-all in MMA. Moy defeated two of New England’s top ten fighters, most recently defeating Andre Soukhamthath via Unanimous decision in January of this year. Garcia, also undefeated and 4-0 has three wins over unranked fighters but one impressive KO win over former Div. 1 wrestler and two time Olympic trial runner up Shawn Bunch from Edinboro University. Garcia is 2-0 in Bellator and in both fights his reach seemed to play a major roll. The 6 ft bantamweight is very tall for the class and will pose a sure challenge for the 5’5” Moy.
Headlining the event is a featherweight title bout between champion Pat Curran and Challenger Patricio “Pitbull” Freire. The co-main event features Brennan Ward (9-2) vs James Irvin (17-10).The Bellator 123 main card will air on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET, while preliminary-card fights stream on Spike.com (7 p.m. ET) Tickets are available on Bellator.com and Mohegansun.com
I was able to catch Kin Moy for an interview before he hit the mats this weekend and talk about his upcoming Bellator debut, training and some more interesting things!

A resident of the great city of Cambridge, Ma. Moy finds himself just minutes from his home gym of Redline Fight Sports found in the center of the city on Mass ave. Over the past few years, Redline has produced some of the best MMA fighters on the east coast. Four of their top fighters find themselves in the top ten in the New England MMA rankings with one holding the top spot and two of them remain undefeated. Moy, one of the few undefeated fighters in New England credits the hard work ethic he’s maintained and the quality group of coaches he is blessed to have. “Head trainer Paul Rosado and coach Eric Grossman run his MMA program and Grossman doubles as his fight manager. Kin credits Jordan Tabor and Dave Ginsberg for his Jiu Jitsu.
The athletic bantamweight who’s run a muck in the bantamweight division now for the past few years tells me he wasn’t a natural bantamweight. “I used to take Tae Kwon Do when I was like 9 and we had backyard fights in the neighborhood and stuff but it wasn’t until I was about 17 when one of my friends brought me to his gym to try MMA. I was really sedimentary, I used to just play video games and stuff. I was around 185lbs and shorter than I am now (5’5”). Says Kin. “I wanted to try fighting, I wanted to compete! They said I needed to lose weight first.
A drop in weight and a few smoker fights had Kin hooked. Fast forward a few years and Kin found himself the #1 ranked amateur fighter in New England. From video games to a top-ranked contender, Moy continued his career into the pro ranks and now finds himself just a mere five fights deep into a very successful run and already ranked amongst the best in New England. Not going unnoticed, Kin received a call from the #2 promotion in the world in Bellator fighting championships for their upcoming fight card from the Mohegan Sun arena in Uncasville, CT. “It came sooner than I thought” Says Moy “I had like 3 fights in four months and started to get burned out so I took time off, I was trying to decide if I actually wanted to do this long term. I had the conversation with my manager the day before Bellator called. I told him I was just going to say screw it and get in there with the mind set of just get in there and scrap, have fun. Then Bellator called the next day…..I couldn’t say no. I want to gain a lot of experience I’d like to gain credentials. I want to teach someday! Said Moy
I’d asked Kin about his opponent Steve Garcia and he openly says his height advantage is a concern. “ Steve is really tall, and he is a lefty. Neither one am I a fan of, but in martial arts you are trained to fight anyone. I’m a big believer in game-planning, I’ve tailored this camp for his size and reach. At Redline we have lots of tall guys and southpaws so I feel confident I’ll be fine. I train hard everyday that’s what this sport is all about, being ready to fight and adapting. If I cant just fight some guy, then what am I doing in this sport?” Kin replies Good answer!
5’5” 5-0 Kin Moy takes on 6’ 4-0 Steve Garcia at Bellator 123 September 5 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Kin’s bout streams live on Spike.com at 7pm ET.
