Underrated/Unknown Fighters #1

Posted 11-29-2007 at 03:26 PM by bbjd7
I thought I would use this new blog feature(sick idea) To try and put fighters I think are underrated some love and Also to give some guys who don't get a lot of attention a spot light.

So I figured I start out with 2 Chute Boxe fighters obviously.

Luiz Azeredo

Luiz was a top LW fighter in Pride. However he was always overshadowed by Gomi, Hansen, Sakurai, and others. His record is an unimpressive 11-6.

But he was competitive in all his losses and outside of a loss early in his career to some scrub his other losses were to Hansen by a crazy knee during a close fight. Sakurai by decision. Tony Desouza by decision. Gomi twice in two close fights especially the 2nd one.

He has wins over Paul Daley(a future topic of this blog),Buscape, and Anderson Silva.

Luiz Azeredo hasn't been fighting recently but rumors seem to be linking him to fighting on NYE, and also he is supposed to fight Buscape in February. Whenever he returns trust me he is a dangerous fighter who can compete with anyone in the LW division.
Helio Dipp

Helio was supposed to be the next great Chute Boxe star. He has crazy Muay Thai and fighting at 205 he was thought to be the next Wanderlei, or Shogun.

After going 4-0 including a KO against IFL veteran Brent Beauperlant, Helio hit a wall and lost 3 of his next 4 fights all against experienced talented fighters.

He won his last fight on September 22 and hopefully he is making a turnaround. He has the Muay Thai skills plus he is 6'5 fighting at 205 which gives him a big advantage.

Ill admit Iv never heard of Helio Dipp, but Azeredo is pretty rated.

However, I think the most under-rated is Paul Daley, you know as much as anyone BBJD.

Azeredo is such a fun fighter to watch. People say he was overrated, but I didn't think so. He was always up for a good scrap, and he & Buscape had a great fight at Bushido 6. Say what you will, but Luiz Azeredo was the man, and people who don't think so, are crack smoking morons.

Azeredo vs Hansen

Azeredo vs Gomi

Funny thing is these two fights are of Azeredo losing but I feel like it really shows off his skills.

After rewatching these fights I'm starting to think Azeredo's biggest problem is his chin. Because he gets caught and goes down in both of these fights that he was getting the better of both Gomi, and Hansen in.

BTW What is it about Chute Boxe that makes guys try to beat their asses after they win. I mean Gomi attacked Azeredo, Coleman attacked Shogun, and Dipp got attacked after one of his losses.

There isn't much on Dipp I've seen his earlier fights where he looked sick but I haven't seen him much since his losing streak hopefully he's still got some nasty stand up.

You got any good Helio Dipp fights on video? I'm ashamed to say I've only heard of him, never actually seen him fight.

Unlike KDS13 I haven't even heard of Helio Dipp, I'll have to look into him.
Azeredo is good but he's one of those guys I always forget, despite fighting a bunch of top competition. He'd make a good addition to any organization.

Helio Dipp was getting huge amounts of hype in 05 but now that he went on a losing streak it's all died down and people have turned there attention to Thiago Silva, Fabio Silva, and Dida.

I wish there were more of his fights out there since the last one I saw he got KO'd quickly by Edson Draggo who has fought in Pride. But before that the guy showed huge potential especially with the size advantage he has.

bbjd7 is a really solid poster, who brings the Chute Box knowledge. he has actually made me watch more Dida, and I now really dig the guy, moreso than before.

Gotta say, most of the members here bring the knowledge.
