Lamas or Swanson next for Jose Aldo?
UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo recently defended his 145 pound title against "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung. It was Aldo's seventh title defense including his WEC defenses pre merge. Soon after the victory, the internet was swarming with debates about who should be the next number one contender for Aldo's belt. Most discussions surround two fighters. Should it be Ricardo Lamas? Or should it be Cub Swanson?
Ricardo Lamas may be the victor when it comes down to who signs on the dotted line as he has a couple of factors working in his favor. One big one, is that Cub Swanson's first UFC fight was a loss against Lamas. Another, is that Cub Swanson already has a loss to Aldo, and it was a pretty bad one as Swanson lasted just 8 seconds in the first round before being TKO'd by a flying knee and follow up punches from Aldo. Ricardo Lamas is 4-0 with 3 finishes since joining the UFC ranks in 2011.
Cub Swanson on the other hand has gone 5-0 with some extremely good performances since losing to Lamas in 2011. These wins include stoppages over Dennis Siver, Charles Oliveira, Ross Pearson, George Roop and a decision victory over Dustin Poirier.
As anyone can see, this decision really could end up going either way. Regardless of which fight we get, it appears that they could end up being good ones as both fighters seem to have really found their game since the UFC and WEC merger.
All we can do as fans is sit back, relax, and hope whoever the UFC picks, will put on an outstanding show come fight time.
