Davis vs. Carmouche Planned for UFC Fight Night 31

The troops at Fort Cambell, KY will have a great WMMA match to watch.

Several websites reported Friday #4 Unified ranked Alexis Davis will take on #7 ranked Liz Carmouche at UFC Fight Night 31: Fight for the Troops 3 November 6. Both Davis and Carmouche (9-3) are coming off wins in the UFC; to Rosi Sexton and Jessica Andrade respectfully.

Davis (14-5) is on a three fight win streak, becoming the first fighter to submit Shayna Baszler in her career. Davis got the decision win over veteran fighter Sexton in June. She is currently ranked #6 in the UFC rankings.

Marine vet Carmouche (9-3) had won two in a row before losing her UFC debut to champion Ronda Rousey. She had a dominant performance over Andrade, getting a TKO win in the second round back in July. She is currently ranked #5 in the UFC rankings.

A win could see either in prime placement behind Cat Zingano on getting a title shot.

No word on where the match will be placed on the card, but the match will air on Fox Sports 1 November 6.

TUF18 Episode 2 Preview:

Megumi Fujii vs Jessica Aguilar 2 Set For Vale Tudo Japan 3rd

One of MMA’s most accomplished female fighters, Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, now has an opponent for her retirement fight at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd on October 5th in Tokyo. Fujii will conclude her storied career when she takes on former Bellator rival Jessica “Jag” Aguilar in a rematch on the card.

VTJ officials announced the matchup today. Fujii, who opened her career with 22 straight victories, announced plans for her retirement in June. She most recently defeated “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi at VTJ 1st in December. Her opponent, Aguilar, has won six straight and defeated Fujii in May 2012.

Fujii (26-2-0) has been a staple of the women’s pound-for-pound rankings throughout her career, which dates back to August 2004. The submission specialist has finished 20 of her 26 conquered opponents and she holds victories over a who’s who of the lighter women’s weight classes. In 2010, Fujii fought through serious injuries in order to compete in the Bellator 115-pound women’s title tournament. She advanced to the finals before dropping a contentious decision to Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Gurgel.

Since the loss to Gurgel, Fujii has won four of five fights. Her second defeat also came in controversial fashion inside the Bellator cage when she was outpointed by Aguilar at Bellator 69. In an action-packed, back-and-forth bout, Fujii rebounded with a close Unanimous Decision win over Yamaguchi on December 24th. She now competes one final time before stepping away from MMA competition.

Aguilar (15-4-0) currently stands atop the women’s strawweight division thanks to her close win over Fujii. She has not lost since September 2010 when she dropped a controversial Split Decision to Gurgel in the semi-finals of the Bellator tournament. After defeating Fujii, Aguilar sat out for ten months before returning in March at Bellator 94. In an uncharacteristically slow performance, Aguilar eked out a Split Decision win over “Little” Patricia Vidonic in a bout that many felt that Vidonic had won.

Both Fujii and Aguilar will have something to prove in their rematch next month. Fujii looks to avenge one of her two contentious defeats before stepping away from the sport, while Aguilar sets out to prove that she is the undisputed top female strawweight in MMA today.

Amanda Nunes Faces Germaine De Randamie At UFC Fight Night 31

A second women’s bout between bantamweight strikers Amanda “Lioness” Nunes and Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie has been added to UFC Fight Night 31: “Fight For The Troops 3” on November 6th in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. UFC officials announced plans for the fight earlier this evening.

Both fighters are coming off of victories in their UFC debuts. Nunes stopped Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff at UFC 163 this past month. De Randamie outpointed Julie “Fireball” Kedzie at UFC on FOX 8. UFC Fight Night 31 also features Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis taking on Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.

UFC Fight Night 31: “Fight For The Troops 3” is set for November 6th at Fort Campbell in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The event is headlined by a middleweight bout between Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and Tim Kennedy, and also features a second female fight between Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis and Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.
