So I just got done watching the Overeem/Buentello Strikeforce HW title fight, and I gotta say, Overeem is looking mighty beastly right now. He finally looks proportionate, he's at the right weight, and it looks like he got his cardio problem fixed.
This fight was basically a complete and utter domination on Overeem's part. They started the fight with a short feeling out process, and Overeem instantly gets a takedown, and proceeds to beat the living shit out of Buentello. Overeem showed...
Well I'm actually going to go with a guy who is known by a lot of people but I don't think they have any clue how good he is and how much potential he has. He is actually in the UFC.
Matt Grice at 10-1 in MMA and 1-1 in the UFC is basically a more polished Gray Maynard. For all the love Gray gets as the next big thing in the LW division Grice is a better version of Gray.
He was a 4 time Oklahoma State Champion in High school. He went to Oklahoma University and never really got to wrestle due to his health.
His wrestling skills are top notch and he can compete with anyone in MMA wrestling wise.
His stand up is pretty good. He won't be out striking anyone but he can stand and bang and won't make himself look bad.
If anything needs work it's his submission defense since he got submitted by Terry Etim at UFC 70. However it looked much improved against Jason Black in a crazy fight.
The guy's GnP is solid and I think he is basically another Frankie Edgar. He is an outstanding wrestler who has some boxing skills and needs to work on his submission game. basically Edgar.
Matt Grice is as good if not a better prospect than any guy from TUF 5. This guy has a very bright future and it is a shame he had to pull out of his fight with Gray so he can support his family.
Matt is going to make an impact in the UFC LW division in the next 2 years he has that much skill.
