Miles is my lab/greyhound mix who i've mentioned many times on here. As is common in many of what my vet calls "sight hounds" aka lab, greyhound, afghan hound, saluki, he has developed a tumor at the base of his heart that extends down into his lungs. The vet said he will likely not experience any type of rupture due to the proximity of the tumor to his heart, but will probably slow down more and more and one day "lie down and fade away." this is weird because it's how our first dog went. In the meantime he has been on prednisone for the past month. It has improved his quality of life a lot, the downside is he is kind of manic and I have to stop myself getting mad at him, i.e. he's more underfoot than ever, (he's always been my shadow since we've had him). he's about 13-14, his age is a guess b/c the kid we adopted him from adopted him as a stray almost 5 yrs ago, and the shelter thought he was about 9 at the time. He pisses and craps on the rug regularly, i'm constantly cleaning up after him, we have a small shampooer but we need to bring the giant one out again. It's exasperating but I continue to remind myself that he's been a sweet gentle loving dog and that i'll be glad we spoiled him rotten when he's gone.
