That's probably the main reason that young people haven't embraced linux and said effu to windoze. None of the bestest latest games come out in linux until they're old news. You can work around that and play your favorite games on linux but, the key word is work.

It's not a problem for me because for the most part, I'm not a gamer at all. with the exception that I used to love the real time strategy games like command and conquer.

By coincidence, linux has the best rts game I've ever played in WAR ZONE 2100. Much cooler than C&C.

Just checking to see if any of you guys are still using Linux or if we have any new converts.

I'm thinking of upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 but, i don't think I like the look of UNITY.

with Gnome I can make my desktop look like anything I want and i do. Love the cube.

Unity looks like a smart phone.

Any opinions?

I'm not that big a fan of the new Ubuntu scheme honestly. I'm running it on my merrybirthdaymas rig as a partition currently. Like Hex said, I play too many games to not keep Windows, the sorta necessary evil. I know wine runs a great deal of stuff but more advanced games still bog it down too much. I plan to get a SSD to run games in Win7 and then my main hard drive will get a full install of either Mint or Ubuntu and my windows drive will never see the internet again. I may try a few other versions out before settling though.

I built a new box a couple of weeks ago with an 128GB SSD for the OS/current games/apps and a 2 TB HDD for storage, and it is LIGHTNING fast. My load times in ME3 are literally a couple of seconds, so fast I cannot read the tool tips. Go for it!

Why will the windows drive never see the internet again? Won't that be a problem for Steam/Origin services, patching, multiplayer, etc? Just a suggestion, maybe use the SSD for Win7, and partition part of the HDD for a linux system partition. Make another partition out of the rest of the HDD with NTFS and then mount it under both Windows and Linux for shared storage. WINNING!

Word I'll probably do that thanks hex. That's almost identical to what I'll have. My Windows drive will still link to trusted sources like steam etc for sure but I'm referring to web browsing in general. I literally had Windows installed for about twenty minutes when I first built this rig for myself and got a damn security bot because I'm dumb and went to the first site google listed for ati drivers.. Big surprise it was a scam! I was pissed but thankfully nothing was harmed. Lucky for me I have uber nerd friends that smack me on the back of the head and then take care of my gaffs. That's actually how I got into Linux. My cousins roomie in Colorado set me up with a linux box and told me it was like wearing a condom for the internet. Can't stop everything but its 99 percent effective. I haven't looked back since.
