Opera 11 Web Browser

While many people are aware of Firefox and it's uses..
not many are aware of Opera.

When i first stopped using IE, i switched to Firefox. I used Firefox for a few years. Just got tired of installing, and reinstalling all of my Extensions/Plugins.

Then i tried Opera. i fell in love with Opera. Im not here to try and convince anyone which is better. but for my uses, Opera has so many more features that make it extremely convenient to use, transfer to another computer, and install.
It's fast, light footprint, and extremely secure.

The only downside of Opera when compared to Firefox was that it lacked extensions/plugins.

Well.. Opera 11 now has 'extensions' !

And if you're a Windows Enthusiast like me, and anal about performance, then you'll enjoy the Portable version:

Extensions available here:

i think i started using Opera since Version 9. Starting with Version 10, i have yet to encounter a website that causes any problems.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but pressing 'Ctrl+Enter' will automatically enter the Username/Password for a website that you have saved with 'Password Manager'.

Tip for Opera Novice
Isn't it a pain when you update to a new version, move to a new computer, you lose all your favorites, bookmarks, Speeddials, Theme, etc.?

Well .. here's how to save. Copy & save to a safe location this folder:

Full Install Version:
C:\Users\RudeBoySes\AppData\Roaming\Opera

Portable Version: (location may be different depending on which version, but what you want to backup is the "Profile" folder)
C:\PortableApps\OperaPortableTest\App\Opera\profile

How to use:
After you update to a new version, or move to a new computer.
Just copy, paste, and replace the entire folder with your backup copy.

NOTE: if you backed up from a full install, you can also use that for the portable version. Just paste the contents of the "Opera" folder into the "Profile" folder of the Portable Version.

Ha! I was about to post an opera link in the FF thread. I love to play around with opera it has so much going on, it probably is the overall best but, for some reason I always gravitate back to Chrome.

I also like to play with obscure options. If you like lightweight and fast keep an eye on Midori. it's getting better all the time.

any of you guys use opera unite for file sharing? I would like to hear more about how that works.

Also for you mobile users (not me) here's what Clark Howard says about opera mini. Trust me, you can trust Clark.

Quote:
Opera Mini offers a way to dramatically reduce how much data you use on your smart phone.

Big carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon all have data caps in place. Sprint is the only one of the bigs still out there doing unlimited data. Imagine how they'll get dumped on by data hogs!

So let's say you want to hang with AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon because you like their networks. A tech writer for The New York Times recently ran a story that claims Opera Mini reduces data consumption by 90% so you can dramatically stretch your data plan with your carrier.

Opera Mini is a mobile browser available as a free download for Android, Apple, Blackberry, Windows and Symbian S60 smartphones. Because it only sips data, you may even be able to stay on a lower data plan when you're using it. Plus, in my experience using Opera Mini, it's really fast to boot!

So try downloading it. It will improve your web surfing and save you money on the data side.

kevinhopes has a little shameless behaviour in the past
The second-oldest browser currently in use, Opera debuted way back in 1995 and has recently undergone a major overhaul. No longer the quirky choice of enthusiasts, Opera has developed into a robust, full-featured suite of browsing tools.
