I'm VEEEERY anti-religion, but still feel bad that I cringe whenever I hear someone thanking God. Sounds a bit weak to me that they say it, like God helped them because they don't feel they have the talent in the first place?

They obviously don't, otherwise they'd take credit for their wins. It's clearly cheating and they should be fined for it.

I take it as they are thanking god for giving them the ability to win, safe training, things like that.

Not really sure why it bothers people so much. Who cares what others believe?

That's really personal and it's impossible to figure exactly what goes on in the head of each fighter. IMO, if should be any thanks to God it should be for the fact it was a fair fight and nobody got seriously hurt. Same way for a prayer before the fight. To pray nobody gets seriously hurt. Thanks for the victory is just off for the reasons already exposed.
