I think size played a big role in this fight. Alvarez looked like the much bigger, stronger fighter.
Dida's cool, I like him. But I dunno if he will ever be a top 5 LW. Too many holes in his game. He looks a tad small for 155, any chance he could make FW?

He's just too wild. You can have all the power in the world, but if you throw everything into your punches, chances are high you're leaving yourself open to being countered with a takedown.
I agree, he's fought some tough competition. But you seemed extremely confident in his ability to make Alvarez look foolish:
lol. There's nothing wrong with you having optimistic predictions for one of your favourite fighters. I just find it interesting that you were so convinced that he'd be more complete with his training at the Universidade, and your confidence in his improvements completely changed since he got smashed.

Alvarez likes to stand and bang that's why I assumed he would stand and bang it's what he does. I knew about his wrestling pedgree but he doesn't use it all that often.
I know that's why he needs a good defensive ground game
I thought he would KO Eddie Alvarez standing. Something he almost did when he rocked him. I didn't think he would take him down and I was obviously wrong.
Also I did say that his only chance to beat the strong wrestlers who would take him down in this GP was for him to face them in a later round because his ground game needed work.

This is my 8th time saying this, but his standup was abismal, plus he needs more strength cause the poor dude was being absolutely mauled!

IDK If he could make it he also isn't in a gym with great weight cutters in Ninja and Shogun who both could probably be a weight class below where they are.
His last two losses where to two very big LW's in JZ and Alvarez which probably helped them dominant him on the ground but that doesn't mean he doesn't need a lot of work on his ground game.

He's got the potential to be great, but he needs to tighten-up his standing game, bulk up a bit, work on his takedown defense and work on his ground game like there's no tomorrow. I like Dida as well, he seems like he loves to fight and I respect that. But you can't expect to win a GP because you look at guys mean, and have power in your hands.. you know?

I haven't seen the fight yet but I think Alvarez is usually a 170lber.

He was when he fought in Bodog, but he was a small 170. Thompson, granted, is a big welterweight, but he made Alvarez look tiny.

I think the Thompson fight might also have a wake-up call that affected his game plan against Dida. He probably realized after Thompson beat him that he wasn't going to be able to stand and bang with everyone he fought.

True I think his stand up where it is now is good enough to hang with anyone in the LW divison and tighting up will just improve him as a fighter but I agree he needs to work on his ground game and probably bulk up a bit.

I think he definitely has some awesome power, and he showed that against Eddie who went into desperation mode after getting dropped repeatedly, but at the same time he kind of went wild with the strikes when he could have been a bit more calculated.
He definitely does need to bulk up though, Alvarez is a huge lightweight, so it made Dida look even smaller by comparison lol.
