I've Been On A PRIDE Kick Lately

Man, I'm re-discovering some of the more often unpimped Pride shows, and Cold Fury 3 should get more love. Seriously, this show was solid as hell.

Mezger vs (lil) Nogueira was a good, technical fight. Not really exciting, but technique fanboys would appreciate this, and I did. Rog Nog was the aggressor, and Mezger was on the defensive (Which isn't surprising). Mezger showed really good takedown defense, and was, of course, hard as hell to put away. Good win for Rogerio.

Overeem vs Waterman showed how horrible Overeem has gotten.

Gracie vs Sasaki kind of bored me.

Overeem vs Atajev was a fight that I dug a lot. Atajev executes a swank throw, and an even swanker spinkick. FEAR THE ATAJEV WONKY KICK! It gets a little slow at parts, but I liked those parts, because Overeem stayed busy. Man, Atajev just lets him get positions. Is that a Russian Top Team sort of thing? Because Sergei does the same thing. Unlike Sergei, Atajev can atleast block knee's from sidemount with his hand. Suh-wank KO from Overeem, as well. Damn, Atajev fell out of the ring after that. I was on the Atajev bandwagon after this fight, and I think I'm the only member. Solid win for Alistair.

Ninja vs Randleman was good, and it smoked Rampage vs Ninja (Which isn't hard to do). Randleman's veiny legs frighten me. I hated this fight at first, but I have grown to like it. The ground portions are a tad slow, but man, they both just let the fists fly when they stand. Man, Ninja's eye is messed up!

(Big) Nogueira vs Henderson was freakin' awesome. Seriously, this fight needs to be seen by both Hendo fans & Nogueira fans. Nogueira gets Hendo in so many freakin' subs, and Henderson squirms out of all of them, before succumbing to Nogueira's mighty armbar. You have to respect Henderson for stepping up. You also have to respect Nogueira for being so freakin' awesome. Hendo is awesome, as well.

To show how cool Bas is: He is wearing a black business suit, with a gray shirt, and no freakin' tie. Bas don't need no stinkin' ties!

Quadros wasn't half as annoying as he usually is. That being said, he was still annoying.

So, yeah, talk about the event, or add your own. I'll post more later.

Discuss.

The wife bought me Cold Fury 3 one day. Pretty action packed. It came with another DVD as well but I forget the title.

Hendo vs BigNog 2 is one of my favorite Hendo fights. Definetly showed how much heart and balls he had. Anyone who thinks his sub defence is lacking needs to watch him squirm out of some of Nog's attempts. Think Ill make a couple avatars in ode to this one.

PRIDE is the shit. The way Dream Stage puts their shows together is amazing. The videos and music kick ass. The whole runway thing is great and it adds alot of hype to the show.

Championship Chaos 2 is the other DVD. The show sort of lags, but Fedor vs Herring was awesome stuff. Nogueira vs Schilt was fun, as well. Geez, Fedor whomped Herring so bad in that fight.

I will watch Bad To The Bone tonorrow, and post again in this thread about it.

I think Hendo vs Nogueira 2 is my favorite Hendo fight, too. He lost, but man, he gained so much respect, so in a way, he won.

One thing I noticed more about Pride fights, is that there are some fights that seem to be really boring at first watch, but then they slowly grow on you. There are UFC fights like this, but with me, it seems like Pride has a bigger ratio of these type of fights.

Here in Canada, we have zip.ca (similar to netflix in the states,) and they have pretty much every Pride DVD ever. I ve been watching like a maniac as of late, and I think I am officially about 5 Pride shows away from seeing ALL of them.

Bad To The Bone was a fun show, and had fights that you'd normally think would be one-sided, end up being the opposite.

I've noticed that these pre-show startings could've been so much better if Quadros weren't in them. Hey, Frye's training with Frank Shamrock.

Bas dabbles in the beer drinking. Oh, Bas, you and your beer. Quadros with a beer makes me laugh.

Schembri vs Hamanaka was uninteresting. Schembri, in general, is uninteresting. The sideburns aren't even cool, they're ridiculously over-the-top. You ain't Ken, Elvis, shave dem shits off.

Takada is doing commentary with some hot chick. Takada is probably thinking about having a worked fight with Shannon Ritch.

Anderson Silva vs Takase is a fight that you'd expect Silva to win. Well, that doesn't happen. Takase actually dominates the whole fight, and subs him with a swank triangle. Silva went on to do better things while Takase went on to win a fight he shouldn't have won against Newton.

Overeem vs Bencic was domination on Alistair's part. This was back when Alistair thought more about fighting, and less about applying foundation to his pretty, precious, face. Cro Cop looks like he's ready to kick Bencic out of his camp. I don't blame him after that.

Bas & Quinton are all awesome and shit. Quinton thinks his opponent is "Snee-kay."

Rampage vs Illoukhine freakin' ruled. Illoukhine is a Russian Top Team member, and this was before he became Sergei Kharitonov's lackey. This is one of many reasons why I loved Pride, they had these obscure Russian fighters fight, and more often than not, these guys put on a good show. Some lose, and some don't, but that's not the real point. The point is that these Russian Top Team guys freakin' rule. Quinton's entrance takes forever. Quinton gives a yellow card to the ref. That ruled. Illoukhine tries a swank guillotine, and a swank kimura. He tries to go for the kimura for too long, and he burns himself out. Illoukhine tries to escape the ring. Quinton is whoopin' dat ass. KNEES! KNEES! KNEES! Nice win for Rampage. I loved this.

Fedor vs Fujita is my all time favorite Fedor fight. Seriously, if you haven't seen this, then make sure you do. Fujita freakin' rocks Fedor with a punch...I mean, Fedor has a glitch in his system. The scientists have fixed the glitch. Shortly after the punch, Fedor whoops that ass, and puts on a nasty RNC. A bloody Fedor is victorious. I freakin' loved this.

Heath gives Bas a little present: A black cowboy hat. Bas thinks he's John Wayne, and does a hick accent. Dude, Bas, you would so liverkick John Wayne. Cro Cop, as usual, doesn't care.

Herring vs Cro Cop is a total beating. Cro Cop completely outclasses and exposes Herring's standup game. I like Heath, but his gameplan sucked here. Swank kick to the body, and Cro Cop whomps Herring afterwards. Best part of the fight: Cro Cop extends his hand to a fallen Herring in a total "I am such a badass" way.

Frye vs Coleman 2 was a borefest. Both guys didn't want to do much, and it showed. Frye's moustache is still glorious, though.

Fun show, bad main event. Still, I recommend the hell out of this.
