With 12 TKO’s and a recent 5 fight win streak- all via TKO - British sensation Paul “Semtex” Daley was seen by many as the explosive and unstoppable force, ready to assert himself high atop the staggering welterweight hill, with his blinding speed, channeled aggression, and pin-point striking. After recently making his American debut at StrikeForce, June of last year, the 25 year old champion of both FX-3 and Cage-Rage Championships had quickly become possible heir to EliteXC’s welterweight title through quick victories over Duane “Bang” Ludwig, and Sam Morgan.

However, no one saw it coming when Daley ambiguously posted a comment on Cage Warrior’s website claiming that he would be retiring as of March 29th. This news was not at first confirmed by Daley or his representatives until FX-3 promote, Paul James, verified to Sherdog.com that Daley was indeed stepping down as multiple champion, and hanging up his gloves until further notice.

In his message, Daley stated that there would be, “No speculation, No futher annonucments, once i’ve found the path i originally set out on in the Martial Arts, i may return to this SPORT, Maybe 6months-Maybe 6 years, who knows. ”

Semtex’s sudden quest for inner fulfillment comes at a shock for many fans as he was only [17-6-2] and steamrolling towards another championship at EliteXC. Already, rumors have begun circulating within U.K’s MMA community, raising doubts about Daley’s motivation towards the sport.

If lack of motivation is truly the point- which one is baffled by considering his recent tare through the division- then a leave of absence may truly be key to re-igniting the fire that once was un-tamable.

Daley declined any further comment regarding his decision after writing in a text message to Sherdog.com that, “he didn’t want to make a big deal of it“.
