Elite XC has lost over $2 million over the last 18 months. They need money to lure new WW to their organization. After Kimbo is put against a descent opponent and gets destroyed they are going to have a hard time getting any casual fans to tune in. Which is needed in order to make the company successful.
The logic that the UFC WW are only considered the best because of publicity is retarded. Anyone who knows anything about mma knows that 8 out of the top 10 WW in world the are in the UFC. None of which most likely would make more money by leaving. So if Shields is satisfied being #4 or #5 in the world then he should stay put. If he ever wants to be the best, he needs to go where most of the best WW in the world are. All 8 aren't going to come to him.

Well unfortunately for EliteXC and CBS, the amount of posts on this website doesn't pay their bills or impress their sponsors. The ratings Saturday night were pathetic, many dedicated MMA fans here forgot all about it, how many people here ever forget about a UFC PPV?
|
The website dosen't pay the bills, but the fans do. And it looks as if EliteXC has ruffled some feathers and will continue to do so.
The forgotton show has been discussed. It was hardly advertised. A UFC PPV is advertised in abundance before the show. The CBS show was not. I'd bet that the next CBS show has at least 40% better rating ratio than this last one.

Yeah, but the CBS show is free... Of course they are going to get some what of a good rating just because people will be flipping channels and seeing MMA and tune in for a bit. If Elite XC were to put a show on PPV, I don't think there is any way it would do nearly as good as the UFC. Yes that is partly because the UFC puts more money into advertising, but that is because they have more money to do so because they have the better talent that brings in the money. Elite XC is not on the same par with the UFC talent wise, and just because they have national TV exposure doesn't mean they will anytime soon.
Your argument about Patrick Cote not being able to hang with Scott Smith is pretty flawed. Cote of course is not the ideal candidate for a title shot yeah, but Smith wouldn't be able to hang with any of the top MW contenders either. That division is pretty stacked with Hendo, Frankilin, Maia, Palhares all of those guys would beat Lawler imo.
Affliction and Dream pose more of a threat because they have depth in one of their divisions, not just one bright star in a couple of them.

Thanks for adding merit to my argument with your post.
Rousimar Palhares is a top MW contender? He's only had one fight in the.........UFC but see how that works?
Demian Maia is a top MW contender? Two fights into the UFC?
Give me names of top contenders that these two guys have defeated.
It's hard to, but some people consider them top tier because they've seen these guys win the UFC.

I think he should stay with Elite XC for now. There are still some interesting tough match ups for him. Isn't he fighting Diaz next?

No, Diaz is going after K.J. Noons, another great young fighter.
He will hopefully fight Drew Fickett. Drew fickett has victories over Josh Koschek and Kenny Florian.

I'm not sure what the second sentence means, but I'll address the first sentence. Since ratings were down terrible, CBS cannot demand the same advertising costs as before, which means CBS is making much less more money. Also, EliteXC can also suffer if their sponsors think nobody is watching.

With Kimbo fighting, that isn't really going out on a limb.

The first sentence was in reguards to the counter programming. It was not directed at you personally. Maybe not a live event, but certainly an attempt to wave potential viewers down.

I agree and hopefully with Shaw out of the picture, Kimbos aura will be used as a tool to attract fans to the better fighters. Kimbo and Gary Shaw give EliteXC a bad rep in my opinion.
